Mount Meru is an active (but dormant) volcano located north of Arusha in Tanzania. At 4562 meters it is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and the fourth-highest mountain in Africa. Mt Meru has become a popular “Warm-up” trek for Kilimanjaro climbers.
Overview
Mount Meru (≈ 4,566 m / 14,980 ft) is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and lies within Arusha National Park — making it a unique trekking experience that combines mountain adventure with wildlife and nature.
The 4-Day Mount Meru trek via the Momella Route offers a “best of both worlds”: a challenging summit attempt and a gentle encounter with the wild — passing through rainforest, montane forest, moorland, heath, and alpine terrain. On clear days, trekkers can enjoy spectacular views of the crater, the Ash-Cone, and even distant glimpses of Mount Kilimanjaro.
This trek is ideal for travellers who want a substantial but manageable mountain climb — perfect for those with limited time, or as a “warm-up” hike before larger climbs, or combined with safari or beach tours.
